According to the dictionary, “snow job” means “a deception or concealment of one’s real motive in an attempt to flatter or persuade.
A couple years after I was saved God pulled a “snow job” on me that “revealed” His great heart of love to me and “persuaded” me to study His Word more to discover just how precious we are to Him.
One winters’ day many years ago we had one of the most beautiful snowfalls I can ever remember. It snowed for hours with big heavy, wet flakes that stuck to everything it came in contact with. As I was riding around in my old Jeep I “just happened” to pass by a public trash site. When I pulled in everything was covered in this beautiful pure white snow, even the sides of the dumpsters were covered. Then I heard the thoughts, “that is the way I see you, I don’t see the garbage.” Well, needless to say I came unglued and had me a praise fit right there on the spot, I had church in the parking lot of the trash dump. To think that the God of glory would see Steve Henry (put your name in the blank) in that way still blows my mind, but that is exactly how He sees us. When He looks at me He looks through the Blood of His precious Son and says “he is one of my new creations.” He sees me in the same perfection of His Son (Hebrews 10:14). Yes, you heard me right, I am perfect in my Daddy’s eyes, don’t try to figure it out, just enjoy His grace.
God helped me to see this wonderful truth one day as I was looking at my daughter when she was about two years old. I was outside swinging her and as I looked at her, in that moment, in this daddy’s eyes she was perfect. Now, of course I know all about all her imperfections and worked with her through the years to help her overcome them, but God help the man that would try to convince me that my little girl was anything but perfect.
That’s the way our Heavenly Daddy is with us. He sees us “when” we sin, but never sees us “in” our sin. Jesus took care of all our sin, past, present, and future (Isaiah 1:18 “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”) When we sin the same One that died for our sins advocates to the Father on our behalf. God convicts but never condemns (1st John 1:9; Romans 8:1).
He convicts and when we agree with Him He forgives (sends away the thing that we have allowed to bind us), and cleanses us (takes away guilt) from that unrighteousness.
My hope and prayer is that all of His children will rest in the security that we have in our Savior, after all He took our penalty so we can go free.
